Welcome to RIA Practices!

Josh Holmes (UX Architect Evangelist for Microsoft) and James Ward (Technical Evangelist for Adobe) did a talk at JAOO where we talked about a lot of different best and worst practices in the RIA Space. Josh represented Silverlight and James represented Flex. It was a really well recieved talk but more importantly than that, it sparked a lot of great conversations and thoughts.

While at CodeMash 2009, we started talking about all of the different practices in the RIA space. We both agreed that it's not doing the consumer any good to have all of these new applications behaving completely differently. For example, how does the auto-complete work in a given type of text field? Or how does the back-button in the browser work? The user has to learn how to use each and every application that they come across. This costs time, money and causes lots of pain.

A first step that we discussed was putting together this type of web site where we could collaborate and put together a set of best and worst practices that are across the board.

If you are interested in participating, feel free to register as a contributor and email Josh Holmes (josh.holmes (at) microsoft.com) to make sure that we approve you in a timely fashion.
